The library houses literature collections of Dr. Judy Maguire (archaeology and natural history), of Dr. W. Richard J. Dean (ornithology), Dr Sue Dean (botany and 1:50,000 maps of the Karoo), as well as books on Karoo exploration, geology and natural history from a variety of donors. The library is accessible to researchers, students, and the community at large.

In the fully equipped lecture hall we host workshops, training sessions, and public talks on topics ranging from geology, hydrology, ecology and archaeology to conservation, gardening, indigenous knowledge, and cultural history of the southern Karoo. We aim to spark curiosity and cultivate a deep appreciation of the Karoo in the minds of school groups, researchers, and visitors.

Curated indigenous and medicinal gardens with around 100 labled plant species surround the building. The grounds also include an installation demonstrating and explaining the geology of the Prince Albert area.
